Overview
unico IDtech is a Brazil-founded identity verification and fraud-prevention technology company that provides biometric identity checks, deepfake and spoofing detection, and fraud-risk analytics to banks, retailers, and gaming companies across Latin America. The company was founded in 2007 in Londrina, Brazil, originally as a document-digitization business called SafeDoc, before pivoting between 2016 and 2018 toward biometric identity verification and launching its Unico Check product.
Today the company operates under the unico brand, with offices in São Paulo and Londrina, Brazil, as well as Mexico City and Menlo Park, California, reflecting an expansion beyond Brazil into other Latin American markets and the United States. Its platform covers identity verification, non-document verification, multi-account detection, age verification, and account-takeover prevention for more than 400 companies, processing on the order of 150 million transactions a month and over a billion identity authentications a year.
unico has been backed by prominent global investors, including Goldman Sachs, General Atlantic, and SoftBank Latin America Fund. In April 2022 the company raised a $100 million Series D round led by Goldman Sachs at a $2.6 billion valuation. In September 2026, unico announced an agreement to acquire Valida, marking its entry into the Argentine market as part of continued regional expansion.
