Overview
Acko General Insurance Limited (IRDAI Regn. No. 157) is the IRDAI-licensed insurance entity operating under the Acko / Acko Insurance brand; it sits beneath parent/holding entity Acko Technology and Services Limited (formerly Acko Technology and Services Private Limited), which is the entity that raised outside funding and whose board Varun Dua leads as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The group was founded in November 2016 by Varun Dua. The company received its operating license from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) in September 2017 and runs what it describes as an "online-led model," with policy issuance, servicing, and claims handled through its own digital platform rather than traditional agent networks.
Acko's product lineup spans motor (car and two-wheeler) insurance, health insurance, travel insurance, mobile-device insurance, and, more recently, term life insurance through a dedicated life-insurance subsidiary. It also operates Acko Drive, a subsidiary launched to offer online car buying, selling, and servicing, which had expanded to roughly a dozen Indian cities and opened its own vehicle service centers in Bengaluru by 2024.
The company has raised in excess of $458 million in disclosed external funding since 2017 across at least eight rounds, reaching unicorn status (a $1.1 billion valuation) after a $255 million Series D tranche in October 2021 led by General Atlantic and Multiples Private Equity Fund. Acko remains privately held, with General Atlantic subsequently increasing its shareholding in parent entity Acko Technology and Services beyond 25% (via a rights issue cleared by the Competition Commission of India in August 2026). No IPO has been announced.
