Overview
Aiven is a Helsinki, Finland-based managed open-source data platform company founded in 2016 by former F-Secure colleagues Oskari Saarenmaa, Hannu Valtonen, Mika Eloranta and Heikki Nousiainen. The company packages open-source data technologies — including PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, Valkey, MySQL and Grafana — into managed cloud services that run across AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and other providers, letting customers avoid being locked into a single cloud vendor's proprietary data services.
Aiven has raised approximately $420 million in disclosed venture funding, most recently a $210 million Series D led by Eurazeo in May 2022 at a pre-money valuation of $3 billion (about $3.21 billion post-money), with backers including IVP, Atomico, Earlybird Venture Capital, World Innovation Lab, Salesforce Ventures and BlackRock. The company now operates in more than 60 countries with offices across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, and in 2025 was named Google Cloud's Partner of the Year for Databases. In July 2026, Aiven acquired fellow Finnish startup Flow AI to add production AI agent infrastructure to its data platform.
