Overview
Anysphere, Inc., which trades as Cursor, builds an AI coding agent and software development environment of the same name. The company was incorporated in 2022 by four MIT students - Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Aman Sanger and Arvid Lunnemark - and is headquartered at 33 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco. Truell is chief executive, Asif is chief product officer and Jordan Topoleski is chief operating officer. Cursor had more than 300 employees at the end of 2025.
The product began as an editor that completed the next few lines of code and became an agent that can search a codebase, edit files, run terminal commands and carry out multi-step tasks from natural-language instructions. Cursor 2.0, released in October 2025, added support for running agents in parallel using git worktrees or remote machines, and the product line has since extended to the web, mobile, the command line and cloud-hosted agents. Cursor serves both third-party frontier models and its own, and in August 2026 launched Origin, a code-hosting platform positioned against GitHub.
Revenue growth was unusually fast even by the standards of the 2023-2026 AI cycle. Annual recurring revenue was above $1 million when the seed round was announced in October 2023, crossed $100 million by January 2025, passed $500 million by June 2025 and exceeded $1 billion annualized by November 2025. The annual sales rate had reached $3 billion by May 2026. Cursor said in June 2025 that it was used by more than half of the Fortune 500, naming NVIDIA, Uber and Adobe among its customers.
The company raised a seed round and four priced rounds, ending with a $2.3 billion Series D in November 2025 at a $29.3 billion post-money valuation, with Accel, Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz returning and Coatue, Google and NVIDIA joining as new investors. Backers across its history include the OpenAI Startup Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive Capital, Benchmark, Accel and DST Global.
Anysphere is no longer an independent private company. On 21 April 2026 SpaceX announced a deal giving it the right to acquire Anysphere for $60 billion, or to pay $10 billion for the companies' joint work. SpaceX exercised that right on 16 June 2026 in an all-stock transaction, and the merger became effective on 14 August 2026, with Anysphere surviving as a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX. Anysphere's outstanding common and preferred stock converted into 389,289,254 shares of SpaceX Class A common stock at an implied equity value of $60.0 billion. SpaceX itself listed on Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX on 12 June 2026.
