About

Atoms designs, develops and sells direct-to-consumer footwear centered on a single core sneaker design refreshed roughly once a year, sized in quarter increments (including the ability to buy a different size for each foot) to solve what the founders identified as widespread poor shoe fit. The company has since expanded into socks, laces, masks and a kids' shoe line, and sells through its own site as well as retail partners including Nordstrom.

Overview

Atoms is a direct-to-consumer footwear brand founded by husband-and-wife team Sidra Qasim and Waqas Ali, best known for selling minimalist "daily-wear" sneakers in quarter sizes and allowing customers to order two different sizes in a single pair for a better fit. The founders previously built Markhor, a handcrafted dress-shoe company they started while students in Lahore, Pakistan, before going through Y Combinator in 2015 and spending roughly three years developing the Atoms sneaker prototype. Atoms publicly launched on June 3, 2019 after building a waitlist of more than 40,000 people through invite-only early access, and is headquartered at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York. As of its 2025 fundraising materials, the company reports more than $36 million in lifetime revenue, over 840,000 products sold to more than 200,000 customers, and a 47% repeat-customer rate.
