Overview
Axiom Space is a privately held aerospace company that builds human-rated space infrastructure, with a focus on operating missions to the International Space Station and developing the ISS's commercial successor. The company was founded in 2016 by Michael T. Suffredini and Kam Ghaffarian and is headquartered in Houston, Texas, where it operates an assembly, integration and test facility at Houston Spaceport, a space station development facility, and a spacesuit laboratory.
The company has flown four private astronaut missions to the ISS in partnership with SpaceX, beginning with Axiom Mission 1 in April 2022 - described as the first fully private crewed spaceflight to the ISS - through Axiom Mission 4, which launched in June 2025 and returned in July 2025. Axiom Space is also developing next-generation spacesuits for NASA, including the AxEMU suit for lunar and low-Earth-orbit use, and has separately shown a lunar spacesuit outer layer developed with Prada.
In June 2026, Axiom Space changed its legal domicile from Delaware to Texas, aligning its legal home with its Houston operations; the company said it employs roughly 700 people, predominantly in Texas. Axiom Space has continued to build out its executive bench and attract international strategic capital, including an equity investment from Hungary's 4iG, as it works toward launching modules for its planned commercial space station.
