Overview

Binance is the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange platform, founded in July 2017 by Changpeng "CZ" Zhao and Yi He. It offers spot and derivatives trading, staking, a card program, an academy, and a venture arm (Binance Labs). In November 2023, Binance and CZ pleaded guilty to federal charges in the United States tied to anti-money-laundering and sanctions compliance failures; CZ stepped down as CEO and Richard Teng, then Binance's head of regional markets, was named the new CEO. CZ was sentenced to four months in prison in April 2024 and was pardoned by President Trump in October 2025. In December 2025, co-founder Yi He was appointed co-CEO alongside Richard Teng. For most of its history Binance operated without a formal, single global headquarters, moving from China to Japan to Malta over the years and describing itself as having none. In March 2025, Abu Dhabi state-backed investment firm MGX made a $2 billion investment in Binance for a minority stake, paid in stablecoins, which Binance described as its first institutional investment. Binance has said it has no current plans for an IPO.

Private securities are speculative, illiquid, and involve risk of complete loss of principal.
