Overview

C6 Bank (Banco C6 S.A.) is a São Paulo, Brazil-based digital bank offering fee-free checking accounts, credit and debit cards, investments, insurance, and lending products through a mobile-first platform. Founded in 2018 by a group of former BTG Pactual executives led by Marcelo Kalim, C6 Bank opened to the public in August 2019 and had grown to roughly 40 million customers by early 2026, making it one of Brazil's largest digital banks alongside Nubank and Inter.

In June 2021, JPMorgan Chase acquired a 40% ownership stake in C6 Bank in a deal whose financial terms were not publicly disclosed; JPMorgan later exercised options to increase its stake to 46% in August 2023. Marcelo Kalim and the founding partners remain the largest shareholders and retain operational control, with JPMorgan holding board representation and protective covenants over major corporate actions such as mergers, significant capital changes, or asset sales.

C6 Bank became a Brazilian "unicorn" in December 2020 after raising R$1.3 billion from roughly 40 private investors in a round that valued the company at R$11.3 billion (about $2.28 billion at the time), a deal arranged with Credit Suisse acting as financial agent; that round followed an earlier R$525 million raise from its key stakeholders in August 2020.

The bank reported R$2.46 billion in net profit for 2025 with a 45% return on average equity, its credit portfolio reaching roughly R$89.3 billion, and CEO Marcelo Kalim has said the bank expects to begin distributing capital to shareholders later in the year. C6 Bank remains privately held with no announced IPO timeline as of September 2026.
