Overview
Chainguard was founded in October 2021 by a team of former Google engineers led by CEO Dan Lorenc, who previously worked on securing Google's internal software supply chain and helped create open-source projects such as Minikube, Distroless, Tekton, and Sigstore.
The company's core products, Chainguard Containers, Chainguard Libraries, and Chainguard VMs, are built and continuously rebuilt from source to minimize known vulnerabilities (CVEs), giving enterprises a hardened, provenance-tracked alternative to standard open-source components.
As of its April 2025 Series D, Chainguard reported growing annual recurring revenue roughly sevenfold during its prior fiscal year to about $40 million, with a stated goal of surpassing $100 million in ARR before the end of fiscal year 2026, and counted customers including Canva, HPE, and GitLab.
Private securities are speculative, illiquid, and involve risk of complete loss of principal. You should be prepared to hold private securities for an extended period; there is no assurance of a secondary market, an IPO, or other liquidity event. You are fully responsible for conducting your own due diligence. Pricing is indicative — nothing here is an offer of securities.
