Overview
Clio, the trading name of Themis Solutions Inc., is a Canadian legal technology company headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia, with a U.S. headquarters established in New York. Founded in 2008 by Jack Newton and Rian Gauvreau, Clio introduced one of the first cloud-based legal practice management platforms, launching publicly at the 2008 ABA TECHSHOW.
The company's core products span practice management, billing and payments (Clio Manage, Clio Grow, Clio Payments) for solo practitioners, small and mid-sized firms, with an expanding push toward larger and enterprise legal departments. In November 2025, Clio completed a $1 billion acquisition of vLex, a Spain-based legal research and AI platform with roughly 2.8 million registered users across more than 110 countries, positioning Clio to combine practice management with legal research and generative-AI tools.
As of its November 2025 Series G announcement, Clio reported serving hundreds of thousands of legal professionals across more than 130 countries and disclosed annual recurring revenue in the hundreds of millions of dollars, up from roughly $200 million ARR disclosed at its July 2024 Series F round.
