Overview
Cognition is a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company, founded in November 2023 by Scott Wu (CEO), Steven Hao (CTO) and Walden Yan (CPO), best known for Devin, which it markets as the first autonomous AI software engineer.
Devin can plan, write, test and debug code inside its own development environment, and Cognition has since layered on products including MultiDevin, Devin Review, and, following its July 2025 acquisition of Windsurf's IDE business, a rebranded product called Devin Desktop.
Cognition's valuation has risen sharply across six disclosed funding events: a $21 million Series A in March 2024 at a $350 million valuation, a $175 million round the following month at roughly $2 billion, a round led by 8VC in March 2025 that put the valuation near $4 billion, a $400 million round in September 2025 at a $10.2 billion valuation, a Series D of more than $1 billion in May 2026 at a $26 billion post-money valuation, and a Series E of more than $2 billion on September 8, 2026 at a $48 billion post-money valuation led by Andreessen Horowitz and Accel.
The company has reported its annualized run-rate revenue growing from about $1 million in September 2024 to $73 million in June 2025, roughly $492 million in May 2026, and nearly $900 million by its September 2026 Series E announcement, and names customers including NVIDIA, GE Aerospace, Citi, Mercedes-Benz and Modal.
