Overview

Commure is an enterprise AI healthcare technology company that builds an AI-native platform combining ambient clinical documentation, agentic AI, and revenue cycle automation for hospitals and health systems. The company traces to two predecessor businesses: Commure, founded in 2017 by General Catalyst's Hemant Taneja alongside former leaders from Google, Salesforce, and Health Catalyst, and Athelas, founded in 2016 by Tanay Tandon and Deepika Bodapati. The two merged in October 2023 to form a combined healthcare infrastructure company, retaining the Commure name, with Tandon as CEO and Taneja as Executive Chair.

Since the merger, Commure has expanded through acquisition and partnership, including its October 2024 purchase of the Nasdaq-listed ambient documentation company Augmedix in an all-cash deal valued at roughly $139 million in equity value, and deployments of its Commure Scribe ambient AI platform with large health systems including HCA Healthcare and Tenet Healthcare. As of 2026 the company says its platform runs inside 500+ health systems and practices across 3,000+ care sites, integrates with 60+ EHR systems, and processes tens of billions of dollars in annual healthcare payments, with the large majority of revenue cycle work completed without human intervention.

Commure has raised capital from General Catalyst, Sequoia Capital, and 8VC among others. It raised $200 million in non-dilutive, revenue-based growth financing from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund in June 2025, and in May 2026 closed a $70 million round led by General Catalyst with participation from Sequoia Capital, Morgan Stanley, and law firm Kirkland & Ellis, valuing the company at $7 billion post-money — up from the $6 billion valuation set at the 2023 merger.
