Overview
Fireblocks is a digital asset infrastructure company that provides institutions with a secure platform for moving, storing, issuing, and managing cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. Founded in 2018 by three former Check Point cybersecurity engineers, the company built its platform around multi-party computation (MPC) technology and chip-isolated key storage to solve the custody and transfer security problems that have historically caused major exchange breaches.
The founders, Michael Shaulov, Pavel Berengoltz, and Idan Ofrat, previously worked together at Check Point after their startup Lacoon Mobile Security was acquired by the cybersecurity firm in 2015. At Check Point they were part of a task force that investigated the 2017 Lazarus Group hack of South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges, and concluded that no institutional-grade infrastructure existed to prevent similar breaches. That gap became the founding premise for Fireblocks.
Fireblocks now serves thousands of banks, exchanges, fintechs, and payment providers, and has expanded from digital asset custody into stablecoin issuance, tokenization, and payments infrastructure. In 2026 the company has emphasized stablecoin-focused products, including Fireblocks Flow for merchant stablecoin acceptance and infrastructure partnerships supporting stablecoin issuers such as Western Union's USDPT and the Open USD consortium stablecoin backed by Visa, Mastercard, and Google.
The company is headquartered in New York and remains privately held, last valued at $8 billion following its January 2022 Series E round; it has not filed for an IPO as of this profile's research date.
