Overview

Firmus Technologies is a Sydney, Australia-headquartered developer and operator of energy-efficient AI data center infrastructure, building what it calls "AI Factories" across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Founded in 2019, the company began as an immersion-cooling technology provider for bitcoin mining before pivoting in 2022 toward purpose-built, high-density data centers for AI training and inference. Its flagship initiative, Project Southgate, centers on a campus in Launceston, Tasmania that draws on the island's largely hydroelectric grid, with planned expansion to additional Australian sites and into Indonesia. Firmus has raised capital in a rapid succession of rounds through 2025 and 2026 from investors including Nvidia, Coatue Management, Blackstone and Ellerston Capital, and was preparing for a listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) as of September 2026.
