Overview
Flix SE is a Munich, Germany-headquartered long-distance travel company best known for its FlixBus intercity coach brand, along with FlixTrain rail services and its 2021 acquisition of Greyhound Lines in the United States.
Founded in 2011, Flix built its business on an asset-light model in which independent transport partners operate the vehicles while Flix provides network planning, digital ticketing, pricing and customer service, allowing rapid international expansion without owning most of its fleet.
Institutional backers including General Atlantic, Permira, TCV, HV Capital, BlackRock, Baillie Gifford, Silver Lake and Canyon Partners funded Flix's growth through venture and growth-equity rounds, and in 2024 EQT Future and Kühne Holding acquired a combined 35% minority stake in the company.
