Overview
Flock Safety is an Atlanta-based public-safety technology company best known for its solar-powered, AI-enabled automated license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras, which are used by thousands of police departments, neighborhoods, and businesses across the United States to help investigate and deter crime.
Founded in 2017 by Georgia Tech alumni Garrett Langley, Matt Feury, and Paige Todd, the company built its first camera prototypes by hand before joining Y Combinator's Summer 2017 cohort. It has since expanded well beyond license plate cameras into gunshot detection (Raven), pan-tilt-zoom video (Condor), drone-as-first-responder hardware (Alpha, acquired via its October 2024 purchase of Aerodome), and an AI-powered investigative search product (Nova/OS Investigate) that correlates Flock's own sensor data with other public and commercial records for law enforcement customers.
Flock's cameras and software are deployed in thousands of communities across most U.S. states, and the company has said its network performs billions of vehicle scans every month. Annual recurring revenue surpassed $300 million in early 2025 and topped $500 million by the first half of 2026, and the company has raised roughly $1 billion in venture funding at a valuation that reached $8.4 billion in April 2026.
The company's rapid growth has drawn sustained scrutiny. Reporting by the Washington Post and others has documented officers using Flock's camera network to track romantic partners without authorization, and camera vandalism, contract cancellations, and local protests over surveillance and potential immigration-enforcement data access have accompanied Flock's expansion into more communities.
