Overview

FNZ is a London-headquartered wealth management technology company that provides an end-to-end investment platform — front-office, tax-wrapper, and back-office infrastructure — used by banks, insurers, and asset and wealth managers to serve their retail investing customers.

Founded in 2003 by Adrian Durham as a business unit inside Credit Suisse's New Zealand office, FNZ became independent through a 2009 management buyout and has since grown into one of the largest privately held platform providers in wealth management globally, administering trillions of dollars in assets on behalf of financial institutions across the UK, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America.

The company remains privately held as of September 2026, majority-owned by long-term institutional shareholders including La Caisse (CDPQ), CPP Investments, Generation Investment Management, Motive Partners, and Temasek, with founder Adrian Durham stepping back from the CEO role in 2024 to a non-executive board position while Blythe Masters took over as Group CEO.

In 2026 FNZ has been mid-way through a multi-year 'transformation programme' aimed at returning the group to profitability after reporting a 2025 pre-tax loss of roughly US$1.36 billion, roughly double its 2024 pre-tax loss of about US$688 million, even as revenue rose 9% to US$1.13 billion. FNZ raised fresh equity from its existing institutional shareholders in April 2025, November 2025, and again in September 2026, while separately agreeing in August 2026 to divest its German banking subsidiary, FNZ Bank SE, to a consortium led by Advent International and HarbourVest Partners — a subsidiary-level sale that does not change FNZ Group's own private, independently owned status.
