Overview
GoStudent is a Vienna, Austria-based education company founded in 2016 by Felix Ohswald and Gregor Müller. It connects K-12 students with tutors for one-on-one lessons in subjects including math, physics, languages, history and chemistry, and has expanded from a purely online model into offline tutoring centers across Europe.
The company became Europe's first edtech unicorn in June 2021 after a Series C round led by DST Global, then more than doubled its valuation to roughly $3.4 billion in a January 2022 Series D led by Prosus. GoStudent grew aggressively through 2022, including the acquisition of German offline tutoring provider Studienkreis, before a broader edtech slowdown forced three rounds of workforce reductions between 2022 and 2024.
GoStudent has since pivoted toward capital efficiency, reporting its first full year of operational EBITDA profitability in 2024 (core EBITDA of €14 million, an approximately €170 million swing over two years) while continuing to invest in AI-powered tutoring tools and its hybrid online/offline model across the DACH region and beyond.
