Overview
GTA Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (积塔半导体, also referred to as Jita Semiconductor) is a Shanghai-based analog and power-device foundry founded in 2017 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Huada Semiconductor, itself part of China Electronics Corporation (CEC), one of China's largest state-owned electronics conglomerates. The company manufactures specialty-process chips -- BCD, IGBT/FRD, SGT/MOSFET, TVS and silicon-carbide (SiC) devices -- that are widely used in automotive electronics, industrial control, power management and smart-device applications, and it has positioned itself as one of China's leading domestic alternatives to imported automotive and power semiconductors. GTA operates fabrication facilities in Shanghai's Lingang and Caohejing areas, with combined production capacity reported at roughly 280,000 wafers per month across multiple wafer sizes, including a 300mm line under construction and a growing SiC production line. In May 2022, Richard Chang (Zhang Rujing) -- the founder of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and a widely described "godfather" of China's chip-manufacturing industry -- joined GTA as Executive Director. The company has raised large strategic financing rounds from state-linked and industrial investors, including a RMB 8 billion round in November 2021 and a RMB 13.5 billion round in September 2023, the latter reported as the largest single financing in Shanghai's semiconductor sector that year.
