Overview
Founded in 2015 by Rachel Romer Carlson and Brittany Stich, Guild built a platform that lets employers such as Chipotle, Lowe's, Target, and Disney offer tuition assistance, degree programs, and skills training as an employee benefit, aiming to make workforce education more accessible for frontline and hourly employees.
By June 2022, Guild had raised a $175 million Series F round led by Wellington Management that valued the company at $4.4 billion, after reaching a $3.75 billion valuation with its Series E round the year before.
The company navigated a period of upheaval starting in 2023: founder and CEO Rachel Romer Carlson stepped back from day-to-day leadership after suffering a stroke, workforce reductions cut a substantial share of staff across 2023 and 2024, and Bijal Shah — previously Guild's Chief Experience Officer — was named CEO in April 2024.
