Overview
Wellhub, known as Gympass until April 2024, is a corporate wellness benefit platform founded in 2012 in São Paulo, Brazil by Cesar Carvalho, Vinicius Ferriani and João Thayro. The company sells subscriptions to employers, who in turn offer employees access to a network of gyms, studios and wellness partners; partners are compensated based on member check-ins and usage rather than flat referral fees.
The company relocated its headquarters to New York City in 2018 as it pushed into U.S. markets including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and Kansas City, layering an American growth phase on top of its original Latin American footprint.
On April 4, 2024, the company rebranded from Gympass to Wellhub, a name change intended to reflect an expansion beyond gym access into a broader set of wellness categories such as mindfulness, therapy, nutrition and sleep. At the time of the rebrand, CEO and co-founder Cesar Carvalho also said the company had begun preparations for a possible future IPO, though its timing and venue had not been determined.
