Overview

Stegra (formerly H2 Green Steel) is a Swedish industrial decarbonization company founded in 2020 and headquartered in Stockholm. It is building what it describes as the world's first large-scale green steel plant in Boden, in northern Sweden, using green hydrogen and renewable electricity across a hydrogen area, iron area, steel mill, water treatment plant and on-site power generation to cut CO2 emissions versus traditional blast-furnace steelmaking. The company renamed itself from H2 Green Steel to Stegra in September 2024 to reflect a broader platform spanning green hydrogen, green iron and green steel, not just steel. Plant construction began in 2022; as of mid-2026, the company has indicated its production start timeline was under review rather than firmly confirmed. Henrik Henriksson, formerly President and CEO of Scania, has led the company as CEO.
