Overview

Headway is a New York-based health technology company that builds a modern mental healthcare system, helping people find and afford therapists and psychiatrists who accept their insurance. The company was launched in 2019 by CEO Andrew Adams after he moved to New York from California and struggled to find a therapist willing to accept his insurance plan.

The company's platform works with insurance plans and clinicians on one side to expand access to in-network mental healthcare for patients on the other, handling functions such as credentialing, onboarding, clinical training, scheduling and billing for the therapists and psychiatrists in its network.

By late 2023 Headway had expanded to all 50 states and Washington, D.C., with more than 27,000 clinicians in-network with over 25 health insurance plans; by its 2026 acquisition of the team behind Tezi, the company described itself as operating the largest mental health provider network in the country, with over 70,000 providers.
