Overview
Kunlunxin (also referred to as Kunlun Core) is a Beijing-based designer of AI accelerator chips that originated as an internal semiconductor program at Baidu beginning in 2011. Baidu released its first-generation Kunlun AI chip in 2018 before spinning the effort out into an independently operated company, Kunlunxin, in April 2021, with chief chip architect Ouyang Jian becoming CEO. The company has since released successive chip generations, including Kunlun II in 2021 and the third-generation P800 chip in 2025, targeting cloud AI training and inference workloads for Chinese customers including China Mobile.
Kunlunxin has disclosed six rounds of financing since its 2021 spinoff, including a Series C round announced in June 2024 backed by the Beijing Municipal AI Industry Investment Fund and Junlian Capital, though specific round amounts have not been publicly disclosed. Baidu has continued to hold a controlling stake in the company, disclosed at 57.67% in 2026 listing-guidance filings. Amid surging investor interest in Chinese domestic AI chip champions, Kunlunxin has pursued a dual listing strategy: initiating Shanghai STAR Market listing guidance while separately preparing a Hong Kong IPO whose reported target valuation rose from roughly $3 billion in December 2025 to about $14.7 billion in May 2026 and to a reported target near $50 billion by June 2026, a figure that would value the chip unit above Baidu's own market capitalization.
