Overview
Lumilens is a San Jose, California-based startup building optical interconnect technology for AI data centers, spanning silicon photonics, mixed-signal integrated circuits, lasers, and packaging under its LumiCore technology platform. Founded in early 2024 by CEO Ankur Singla alongside co-founders Ted Schmidt, Samuel Liu, Ritesh Kapahi, and Dave Friedman, the company builds both near-package and co-packaged optics for scale-up (GPU-to-GPU) connectivity and pluggable optical transceivers for scale-out (rack-to-rack) networking. Within roughly two years of founding, Lumilens' initial scale-out transceiver product completed qualification and began shipping into a hyperscaler's production AI data centers under a multi-billion-dollar customer agreement. The company emerged from stealth in August 2026 alongside a Series C round of more than $700 million, co-led by Atreides Management, Bain Capital Ventures, Meritech, Seligman Ventures, and Spark Capital, bringing its total funding to more than $900 million (including earlier funding not itemized in public reporting) and valuing the company at $5.51 billion. Lumilens remains privately held with no announced IPO plans as of this research.
