Overview
Founded in 2015 by former Facebook CFO David Ebersman together with Dena Bravata, Bryan Roberts of Venrock, and Bob Kocher, Lyra Health set out to make it easier for employees to find and access effective mental health treatment by combining a curated, evidence-based provider network with a technology platform for matching, scheduling, and outcomes tracking.
The company sells its benefit, marketed under the Lyra name and its Empower platform, to large self-insured employers such as Starbucks, Morgan Stanley, Uber, and Genentech, who offer it to employees and dependents as a workplace mental health benefit. Lyra reports a global provider network of more than 30,000 clinicians and says it has served more than 20 million members across roughly 180 countries.
In July 2025, Lyra acquired Bend Health, a Madison, Wisconsin-based pediatric and family mental health provider, to add collaborative-care and neurodiversity capabilities aimed at children and adolescents. Financial terms of that acquisition were not disclosed.
In January 2025, company co-founder David Ebersman transitioned from CEO to Chairman of the Board, and Jennifer Schulz, previously CEO of Experian North America, became Lyra's Chief Executive Officer.
