Overview

Mollie is an Amsterdam-based payments and financial-services platform that helps businesses accept online and in-person payments, manage subscriptions and billing, and access working capital. Founded in 2004 by Adriaan Mol, the company built its early growth around simplifying Dutch payment methods such as iDEAL before expanding into card acquiring, dozens of local payment methods, invoicing tools and merchant financing across Europe. Mollie raised its first outside capital, a €25 million round, in 2019, then a $106 million Series B led by TCV in 2020 that pushed its valuation past $1 billion, followed by an $800 million Series C in 2021 led by Blackstone Growth at a $6.5 billion valuation. Koen Köppen, previously the company's CTO and before that CTO at Klarna, became CEO in January 2023. Mollie has since pushed into business banking and merchant lending through Mollie Capital and Mollie Business Accounts, extended its own operations to every European Economic Area country by mid-2026, and agreed to acquire UK-based GoCardless, a deal it completed in September 2026 to combine card and local payment methods with GoCardless's bank-payment and direct-debit network.
