Overview

Moon Active is a Tel Aviv-based mobile gaming company founded in 2011 by Samuel Albin, who remains Founder and CEO. Its flagship title, Coin Master, launched in 2016 and became a global casual-gaming phenomenon, generating over $6 billion in cumulative lifetime revenue by 2024 and roughly $1.2 billion in annual revenue since 2020.

Unlike many gaming unicorns, Moon Active raised only about $10 million in primary equity funding since its founding. Its later, much larger headline transactions — a $125 million deal in January 2020 and a $300 million deal in November 2021, both involving Insight Partners — were secondary sales of existing shareholders' stock rather than new capital raised by the company, pushing its valuation from roughly $1.25 billion to $5 billion.

The company has expanded its portfolio through acquisitions, including Melsoft Games (developer of Family Island and My Cafe) in December 2020 and Zen Match, acquired from Turkish developer Good Job Games in December 2022 for an estimated $100–150 million. In August 2024, Coin Master's lifetime revenue was reported to have surpassed the $6 billion mark.

Despite record annual revenue exceeding $2 billion in both 2024 and 2025, Moon Active has undergone repeated restructuring, including layoffs in early 2025 and a further cut of roughly 110 employees (about 5% of its workforce) in January 2026, which the company described as targeted streamlining rather than a response to declining performance.
