Overview
Nord Security was founded in 2012 in Vilnius, Lithuania by childhood friends Tomas Okmanas, Eimantas Sabaliauskas, and Jonas Karklys, growing out of the Lithuanian startup accelerator Tesonet to build NordVPN into one of the world's most widely used consumer VPN services.
Beyond NordVPN, the company has expanded into a broader digital-security portfolio spanning password management (NordPass), business VPN and network-access security (NordLayer), encrypted cloud storage (NordLocker), identity-theft protection (Coveron), and an eSIM travel-data product (Saily), reporting more than 20 million protected users, 25,000-plus business customers, and over 400 patented innovations across its products by 2026.
Nord Security operates alongside sibling VPN provider Surfshark under a shared holding structure, and it raised a combined $200 million in outside growth funding across two rounds in April 2022 and September 2023 — first at a $1.6 billion valuation and then, in a round led by growth-equity firm Warburg Pincus, at a $3 billion valuation — while remaining privately held with no public listing announced as of this writing.
Private securities are speculative, illiquid, and involve risk of complete loss of principal. You should be prepared to hold private securities for an extended period; there is no assurance of a secondary market, an IPO, or other liquidity event. You are fully responsible for conducting your own due diligence. Pricing is indicative — nothing here is an offer of securities.
