Overview
Nscale is a UK-based, vertically integrated AI infrastructure hyperscaler founded by Josh Payne, launched from stealth in May 2024. The company builds and operates its own AI-optimized data centers (rather than leasing third-party colocation) spanning GPU compute, networking, data services, and orchestration software. Nscale offers AI services (inference endpoints, prompt testing, fine-tuning), platform services (managed training, Kubernetes, virtual machines), infrastructure services (compute, networking, storage), and fleet operations tools. Its flagship projects include the Arctic Circle data center in Glomfjord, Norway (100% renewable-powered) and a large-scale Texas campus supplying Nvidia GB300 GPUs, alongside a hyperscale AI campus in Narvik, Norway. Nscale's roots trace to Arkon Energy, a renewably-powered Bitcoin-mining infrastructure company co-founded by Josh Payne and Nathan T., whose low-cost power assets and cold-climate sites became the basis for Nscale's AI data centers when the crypto market shifted.
