About
Postman began as a side project: in 2012, software engineer Abhinav Asthana built a simple Chrome extension while working at Yahoo in Bangalore to make it easier to test and share API requests with teammates. In 2014, Asthana co-founded Postman, Inc. with former colleagues Ankit Sobti and Abhijit Kane to build the tool into a full company.

Overview
Postman is an API platform used by developers to build, test, document, and share APIs across the full API lifecycle. Founded in Bangalore in 2014 by Abhinav Asthana, Ankit Sobti, and Abhijit Kane, the company grew out of a Chrome extension Asthana built to simplify API testing at Yahoo. Postman is now headquartered in San Francisco and says its platform is used by more than 98% of Fortune 500 companies, with customers including Microsoft, Salesforce, Stripe, Shopify, Cisco, and PayPal. The company has raised over $430 million from investors including Insight Partners, CRV, and Nexus Venture Partners, reaching a $5.6 billion valuation in its 2021 Series D round. In early 2026 Postman acquired developer-experience startup Fern to expand its API documentation and SDK tooling.
