Overview
Rebellions is a South Korean fabless semiconductor company that designs AI chips, compilers, and system software for AI inference workloads. Founded in 2020 by five Korean engineers, the company is headquartered in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
The company's product line has progressed from its first-generation ATOM neural processing units, built on Samsung's 5nm process, to the newer REBEL100 chip on Samsung's 4nm process, which the company pairs with server, rack, and pod-level systems (RebelServer, RebelRack, RebelPOD) and its own inference software platform to deliver what it markets as efficiency-focused AI inference infrastructure.
In December 2024, Rebellions merged with Sapeon Korea, the AI chip subsidiary of SK Telecom, in a deal with an agreed merger ratio of 1:2.4 for Sapeon Korea and Rebellions respectively; the merged entity was valued at around 1.3 trillion won (about $929 million), making it South Korea's first AI-chip unicorn. Park Sung-hyun, who had been leading Rebellions, became sole CEO of the combined company. Rebellions counts KT Cloud, SK Telecom, and LG Electronics among its commercial customers.
