Overview
SambaNova Systems is an AI infrastructure company that designs its own AI chips (Reconfigurable Dataflow Units, or RDUs) and pairs them with a full-stack software platform to deliver high-performance, cost-efficient AI training and inference for enterprises and governments.
Founded in 2017 by Stanford-affiliated computer architects Kunle Olukotun and Christopher Ré together with former Oracle processor executive Rodrigo Liang, the company has increasingly focused on inference: running trained AI models fast and cheaply at scale rather than only training them.
Its product line spans the RDU chips themselves, the SambaRack and SambaManaged system-level hardware, and SambaCloud and SambaStack software layers that let enterprises deploy large language models and AI agents either on the company's cloud or on customers' own premises.
In July 2026, SambaNova disclosed that JPMorgan Chase had selected it as a partner to power on-premises AI inference using its RDU architecture, and its fifth-generation SN50 chip, unveiled alongside its February 2026 Series E round, began shipping to customers including SoftBank in the second half of 2026.
