Overview
Founded in January 2015 by Ankush Sachdeva, Bhanu Pratap Singh, and Farid Ahsan, three IIT Kanpur graduates, ShareChat built a social network for content in Indian languages other than English, a segment underserved by many global platforms at the time.
The company expanded into short-video with the June 2020 launch of Moj, and later acquired competing short-video app MX TakaTak for $700 million in 2022, following the 2020 ban on TikTok in India.
After a period of rapid valuation growth that peaked near $5 billion in mid-2022, ShareChat reduced its workforce across multiple rounds between 2022 and 2023 and reported a valuation markdown below $2 billion in an April 2024 convertible note round, alongside sharply reduced cash burn.
In 2026, Mohalla Tech reported that it had reached operational profitability and outlined preliminary plans for an initial public offering of up to $400 million over the following four to five quarters.
Private securities are speculative, illiquid, and involve risk of complete loss of principal. You should be prepared to hold private securities for an extended period; there is no assurance of a secondary market, an IPO, or other liquidity event. You are fully responsible for conducting your own due diligence. Pricing is indicative — nothing here is an offer of securities.
