Overview

Sierra Space is a private Louisville, Colorado-headquartered defense-tech and commercial space company spun off from Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) in April 2021 by founders Eren and Fatih Ozmen.

The company builds satellite platforms, critical subsystems, reusable spaceplanes, hypersonic technologies, and propulsion and infrastructure systems, organized around three areas: Space Transportation (the Dream Chaser spaceplane and Shooting Star cargo module), Space Destinations (commercial space stations including the Blue Origin-led Orbital Reef and Sierra Space's own LIFE habitat), and Space Applications (satellite constellations and on-orbit servicing).

Sierra Space has raised more than $2 billion in disclosed equity financing since its 2021 spinoff: a $1.4 billion Series A in November 2021 at a $4.5 billion valuation, a $290 million Series B in September 2023 at a $5.3 billion valuation, and a $550 million Series C in March 2026 at an $8 billion valuation led by LuminArx Capital Management.

Longtime CEO Tom Vice departed at the end of 2024, with founder Fatih Ozmen serving as interim CEO until Dan Jablonsky, former chair and CEO of Ursa Major and former CEO of Maxar Technologies, was named permanent CEO effective March 2, 2026.

The company's first Dream Chaser spaceplane, Tenacity, is slated for a free-flyer demonstration mission in late 2026 after its ISS cargo debut was deferred, and Sierra Space has also won national-security contracts including a $740 million Space Development Agency award for missile-tracking satellites.
