About
Skild AI develops general-purpose robotic intelligence aimed at bringing AI into the physical world. The company was founded in 2023 by Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta, both former Carnegie Mellon University professors, on the thesis that "physical AI should be omni-bodied" — a single shared foundation model, rather than a bespoke model per robot, should be able to control many different robot forms and tasks.

Overview
Skild AI is a Pittsburgh-based robotics AI company founded in 2023 by former Carnegie Mellon University professors Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta. The company is building what it calls the "Skild Brain," a general-purpose, "omni-bodied" foundation model intended to act as a shared brain that can control many different kinds of robots — quadrupeds, humanoids, and static arms — across tasks such as manipulation, locomotion, navigation and inspection, without needing to be retrained from scratch for each new robot or task. In August 2026 the company unveiled its flagship S1 foundation model, which it said can learn new, multi-minute tasks from watching a single video demonstration. Skild AI has raised financing from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Coatue Management, SoftBank Group, Nvidia and others, reaching a reported valuation of more than $14 billion by January 2026, and in April 2026 it acquired Zebra Technologies' robotics automation business (including the Fetch Robotics autonomous-mobile-robot line) to expand into warehouse automation.
