Overview
Slate Auto is a Troy, Michigan-based electric vehicle startup that emerged from stealth in 2025 after operating quietly since its 2022 founding. The company builds a low-cost, customizable battery-electric vehicle platform sold initially as a two-seat pickup truck, with a five-seat SUV configuration built on the same base.
Slate's product strategy centers on affordability and owner customization: vehicles ship in a minimal base configuration meant to be personalized afterward with wrap-based exterior finishes (rather than factory paint) and a large catalog of accessories, with an emphasis on owner-serviceable, swappable parts and an educational hub the company calls 'Slate University.'
The company drew industry attention after reporting confirmed that Jeff Bezos was among its early, previously undisclosed backers, alongside other prominent individual and institutional investors. Slate has since built out a leadership team with veterans of Chrysler, Amazon, and Harley-Davidson, and has taken in preorders ahead of a planned production start.
Private securities are speculative, illiquid, and involve risk of complete loss of principal. You should be prepared to hold private securities for an extended period; there is no assurance of a secondary market, an IPO, or other liquidity event. You are fully responsible for conducting your own due diligence. Pricing is indicative — nothing here is an offer of securities.
