Overview

Snyk is a developer-first cybersecurity company that helps organizations find and fix security issues across custom code, open-source dependencies, containers, and cloud infrastructure. Founded in 2015 by Guy Podjarny, Assaf Hefetz, and Danny Grander, the company built its platform around integrating security scanning directly into developer workflows rather than bolting it on after the fact. Snyk has since repositioned itself as what it calls an AI security company, extending its scanning and remediation tools to cover AI-generated code and emerging AI protocols such as MCP. The company has grown through a series of acquisitions, including DeepCode, Fugue, CloudSkiff, Probely, and Invariant Labs, each adding capability in code analysis, cloud security posture, drift detection, API security testing, and AI security research respectively. Snyk counts enterprise customers including Google and Anheuser-Busch InBev among its user base and lists customers such as Comcast, Dun & Bradstreet, Manulife, and Salesforce in past funding announcements. The company has been widely discussed as a long-anticipated IPO candidate, but 2025 brought slowing growth and increased competition in the code and developer security markets, which pushed the company to explore acquisition interest from private equity firms instead of pursuing a near-term public listing. In February 2026, longtime CEO Peter McKay announced he would step down, saying Snyk's next chapter needed a leader with deeper roots in AI; Chief Financial Officer Ken MacAskill took over as interim CEO in April 2026. In June 2026, under MacAskill, Snyk restructured to focus more resources on AI security, affecting roughly 90 roles including the closure of its Israel development center.
