Overview
Sorare is a French fantasy sports company that lets fans own officially licensed digital player cards and compete based on real athletes' on-field performance across football, basketball, and baseball.
Founded in Paris in 2018 by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort, Sorare built its early games on Ethereum before raising a $50 million Series A led by Benchmark in February 2021 and a $680 million Series B led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 in September 2021 that valued the company at $4.3 billion.
After the 2021 boom, Sorare's revenue and headcount contracted as web3 gaming demand cooled: the company laid off 22 New York staff in March 2024, then announced a 35 percent workforce reduction in November 2025 alongside co-founder Adrien Montfort stepping back from his day-to-day CTO role and a migration of the platform to the Solana blockchain.
