Overview
Starburst is a Boston-based data platform founded in 2017 by a team from Teradata, led by CEO Justin Borgman and co-founder Kamil Bajda-Pawlikowski, to commercialize the open-source Presto distributed SQL query engine. The engine's original creators later forked and renamed it Trino, and joined Starburst to continue its development alongside Apache Iceberg.
The platform gives enterprises governed query access across data lakes, warehouses and databases without moving the underlying data, serving customers such as Comcast and Citigroup across more than 60 countries, with 4 of the top 5 Americas banks and 7 of the top 10 EMEA banks among its clients. Starburst crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue in February 2026 and, in May 2026, launched an Enterprise Intelligence Platform with a generally available AIDA AI assistant to extend governed data access to AI agents and models.
Private securities are speculative, illiquid, and involve risk of complete loss of principal. You should be prepared to hold private securities for an extended period; there is no assurance of a secondary market, an IPO, or other liquidity event. You are fully responsible for conducting your own due diligence. Pricing is indicative — nothing here is an offer of securities.
