Overview
Supabase is an open-source backend-as-a-service platform built around Postgres, giving developers a managed database plus authentication, storage, real-time subscriptions, and edge functions out of the box.
Founded in January 2020 by Paul Copplestone and Ant Wilson, who met through the Entrepreneur First program in Singapore, the company went through Y Combinator's Summer 2020 batch and is positioned as an open-source alternative to Google's Firebase.
Supabase is fully remote, with a team distributed across dozens of countries and no physical offices.
The platform has become widely used by AI coding tools and "vibe coding" workflows, with the company reporting that a majority of new databases on the platform in 2026 were launched by AI tools such as Claude Code and Codex.

You should be prepared to hold private securities for an extended period; there is no assurance of a secondary market, an IPO, or other liquidity event.
