Overview
Syniverse is a Tampa, Florida-based provider of global network interoperability, messaging, and mobile infrastructure services, tracing its roots to a 1987 GTE business unit that became an independent company in the years that followed. The company operates a secure global network described as reaching nearly every mobile device on Earth, connecting mobile operators, enterprises, and technology platforms.
Syniverse's IPX (IP exchange) network provides connectivity across roughly 190 countries, and the company states its platforms process more than $35 billion in transactions annually for clients that include mobile carriers, global banks, and technology companies. Its services span 5G and 4G/LTE roaming and signaling, person-to-application and RCS messaging, IoT connectivity, and fraud/cybersecurity protection for telecom networks.
The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2005 before being taken private in 2011 when an affiliate of The Carlyle Group acquired it. In 2021, Twilio invested in Syniverse as part of a strategic partnership and took a minority ownership stake, while Carlyle has remained a primary owner. Syniverse is led by CEO Andrew Davies, who was appointed in March 2021.
