Overview
Sysdig is a cloud security company founded in 2013 by Loris Degioanni, the co-creator of the widely used network-analysis tool Wireshark. The company built its name on open-source infrastructure visibility and threat-detection tools before expanding into a commercial cloud security platform.
The company's core open-source project, Falco, became a runtime threat-detection engine for containers and Kubernetes and has since graduated as a Cloud Native Computing Foundation project, with Sysdig stating the tool has been downloaded more than 200 million times. Sysdig commercialized this technology into Sysdig Secure and Sysdig Monitor, and later into a full Cloud-Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP) that combines vulnerability management, cloud security posture management, and real-time runtime threat detection and response in one product line.
In 2026, Sysdig pushed further into AI-driven security, launching an agentic 'Secure AI' capability the company says can accelerate security investigations at substantially lower cost, and a 'headless' cloud security platform designed to run inside AI coding agents rather than only through a traditional dashboard. The company states it is used by more than 60% of the Fortune 500.
