Overview
Tempo is a payments-focused Layer 1 blockchain incubated jointly by Stripe and Paradigm, purpose-built for stablecoin settlement rather than general-purpose decentralized finance. It is fully EVM-compatible, built on the Reth SDK, and is designed to let network fees be paid in supported USD-denominated stablecoins rather than a volatile native gas token.
The project was unveiled publicly on September 4, 2025, with design input from a group of financial services, e-commerce and AI companies including Visa, Mastercard, Deutsche Bank, Shopify, Nubank, Revolut, OpenAI and Anthropic. Tempo operated a private testnet through late 2025, opened a public testnet on December 10, 2025 with company-run validators, and brought its mainnet live on March 18, 2026.
At mainnet launch, Tempo and Stripe introduced the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), an open standard intended for machine-to-machine and AI-agent payments, alongside a payments directory listing more than 100 integrated service providers.
Private securities are speculative, illiquid, and involve risk of complete loss of principal. You should be prepared to hold private securities for an extended period; there is no assurance of a secondary market, an IPO, or other liquidity event. You are fully responsible for conducting your own due diligence. Pricing is indicative — nothing here is an offer of securities.
