Overview
upGrad is a Mumbai, India-headquartered edtech company founded in 2015 by Ronnie Screwvala, Mayank Kumar, Phalgun Kompalli and Ravijot Chugh. The company delivers online undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral-level programs for working professionals, built through partnerships with universities and institutions in India and abroad, alongside executive certificate and diploma offerings in areas such as data science, AI/ML, software development, cloud infrastructure and digital marketing.
Beyond individual-learner programs, upGrad operates upGrad Enterprise, a business-to-business workforce upskilling arm that trains corporate professionals for client companies, including Fortune 500 firms, and reported serving more than 1,000 mid- and large-sized clients annually along with tens of thousands of learner placements, career switches and promotions in a recent fiscal year.
In 2026, upGrad completed an all-stock acquisition of rival Indian edtech company Unacademy, combining upGrad's higher-education and workforce-learning focus with Unacademy's consumer test-preparation and creator-platform businesses; the deal valued Unacademy at roughly $206 million, a steep reset from Unacademy's reported 2021 peak valuation of about $3.44 billion.
