Overview
VAST Data builds the VAST AI Operating System, a data platform purpose-built for artificial intelligence and deep learning workloads. Founded in January 2016 by Renen Hallak, Jeff Denworth, Shachar Fienblit and Alon Horev, the company set out to unify high-performance flash storage with the economics of disk and cloud object storage, aiming to remove the traditional tradeoff between speed and cost at exabyte scale. Its platform today spans DataStore (unstructured storage), DataBase (a hybrid database/warehouse/lake), DataEngine (function execution), DataSpace (a global namespace), InsightEngine (a retrieval-augmented-generation service built with NVIDIA), AgentEngine (AI agent deployment) and SyncEngine (ingestion from distributed sources). VAST has become a dominant storage supplier to "neoclouds" — GPU-intensive cloud providers such as CoreWeave and Crusoe that compete with the hyperscalers — and counts NVIDIA, JPMorgan Chase and Mistral AI among its customers and strategic partners. The company is co-headquartered in New York City and Israel (offices at the Tel Aviv Expo complex and a Haifa development center opened in 2021), with roughly 1,100 employees as of early 2026, about a third of them in Israel. VAST reported crossing $1 billion in cumulative software bookings and a $200 million annual recurring revenue (ARR) run rate in 2023. Israeli press (Calcalist) later reported an estimated $2 billion ARR by the end of 2025, a figure VAST itself has not confirmed; at its April 2026 Series F close, the company's own reported figures were more than $4 billion in cumulative bookings and over $500 million in committed/contracted ARR (CARR) -- a narrower, company-disclosed metric that is not directly comparable to the press-reported ARR estimate.
