Overview

Multiverse was founded in 2016 by Euan Blair and Sophie Adelman under the name "WhiteHat," a reference to "white hat" hackers working to fix systems for good. The company builds apprenticeship programs that let people learn technology, data, and AI skills while working, pairing apprentices with human coaches and embedding them within client organizations rather than requiring traditional college tuition.

In January 2021, WhiteHat rebranded to Multiverse alongside a funding round to expand its apprenticeship model into the United States. The company has continued to raise venture funding through 2022 and into 2026, reaching unicorn status in mid-2022, and has broadened its offering into AI-focused upskilling for employers including Microsoft, Mars, and the John Lewis Partnership.

Multiverse is based in London and, according to Wikipedia, had 813 employees as of January 2026. The company has placed more than 22,000 people into apprenticeships and works with over 1,500 employers. In April 2024 it acquired Searchlight, a US-based AI recruitment and assessment startup, to strengthen its ability to diagnose organizational skills gaps.
