Overview

Xiaodu Technology is a Beijing-based smart-hardware and AI-assistant company that began in 2018 as Baidu's smart-device and voice-assistant business (built around the DuerOS conversational AI platform) before spinning out to raise its own outside capital starting in 2020, while Baidu retained a super-majority ownership stake. The company is best known for its Xiaodu smart speakers and smart screens, which became the top-selling products in their categories in China.

Xiaodu has since expanded into AI-powered education hardware (including an AI study-tutor smartphone), home 'agent' software marketed as Super Xiaodu, hotel in-room AI systems, and, most recently, AI smart glasses built on Baidu's Ernie large language model, which began shipping in China in November 2025.

Xiaodu has raised outside capital across three disclosed rounds between November 2020 and January 2023, most recently valuing the company at roughly RMB 35.5 billion (about $5 billion), with backing from state-linked funds alongside earlier investors CPE, IDG Capital, and Baidu Capital.

Li Ying, a longtime Baidu executive who was the company's chief information officer, has served as Xiaodu's CEO since October 2023, succeeding co-founder Jing Kun, who departed to found the AI-agent startup behind Genspark. As of September 2026, Xiaodu says its Super Xiaodu AI agent products serve more than 55 million households in China and the company has begun expanding its AI hotel-room solution internationally into Southeast Asia; Xiaodu remains privately held with no confirmed IPO timeline.
