Overview
XTransfer is a Shanghai-based fintech company that provides cross-border trade payment and financial services to small and medium-sized exporters, founded in May 2017 by CEO Bill Deng and five other alumni of Alibaba's Ant Group. Nikkei Asia has described the company's ambition as building a "PayPal for cross-border trade," combining multi-currency collection accounts, currency exchange, compliance and risk-management tools, and working-capital financing for exporters that traditional banks often underserve.
XTransfer reached unicorn status in September 2021 after a $138 million funding round led by D1 Capital Partners pushed its valuation above $1 billion, and it has since added bank partnerships and licenses across multiple markets, including a Deutsche Bank collaboration and a Monetary Authority of Singapore payment institution license in 2024, and a mainland China payment license in January 2025. By early 2026 the company said it served more than 800,000 enterprise customers processing over $12 billion in payments a month, equivalent to more than 2% of China's total exports, and by August 2026 it said it had surpassed 1 million enterprise clients.
